Worth Every Buck
On my personal favorites from Buck Mason's F/W 2025 arrivals (so far)
Hi everyone, it’s been a while since my last newsletter. When I last posted in August of 2024 I was in the midst of navigating my career pivot from healthcare into fashion/menswear. Fast forward to today, I’m happy to share that I’ve been working for Buck Mason over the last year, and I’ve been lucky to learn from so many genuine and talented people in the industry. But enough on that for now.
I’m still pretty green in this job/industry but I thought it’d be fun to share some quick thoughts on what I’m liking so far from Buck Mason’s fall/winter collection. I went ahead and organized my selections based on category.
Sweaters
Herdsman Crew - Olive Mouline. A chunky, merino wool/cashmere sweater that will actually keep you warm and has an incredibly rich texture. I love the olive option because it has small flecks of brown/yellow mixed in, which gives it dimension. This sweater fits closer to the body so consider sizing up if you want a more cozy fit. I wear a size medium in this.
Shaggy Alpaca Saddle Crew - Goldenrod. Probably one of my most anticipated pieces of the season. When I saw first this at our leadership summit I knew I had to have one for myself. Although it’s not 100% alpaca, the mix of nylon and recycled fibers gives it a great hand feel and added durability. I don’t have a lot of yellow/gold accents in my wardrobe so this was great for expanding my color palette. This one seems to run big so I wear a size small.
California Cashmere Cable Crew - Oak Gall. For a long staple cashmere sweater this thing delivers for sub $400. It has a luxurious hand feel and drapes well despite the lighter weight. I personally love the brown color because it highlights more of the texture but the black option is killer too, and maybe more practical for everyday wear. I wear a size medium.
California Cashmere Polo - Bordeaux. California Cashmere is one of my favorite programs because the long staple cashmere is well worth the price point in my opinion, and this polo works great as a tailoring-adjacent piece in my wardrobe. Note that this polo has a ribbed hem which gives it a blousy feel and cleaner silhouette. I’m excited to see that Buck is now offering items in jewel tones like this bordeaux, which works well with my skin tone. I wear a size medium in this one.
Outerwear
Jungle Cloth Deck Bomber - Navy. The general consensus among our Venice team is that this is our best fitting jacket so far. It looked great on quite literally every single one of us that tried it on. Buck has always nailed military surplus reproductions and this bomber is no different. The vintage proportions, stand collar and voluminous arm sleeves are what really sold me on this. Overall just an undeniably badass jacket. I wear a size small in this.
Italian Doeskin Station Jacket - Black. This is another heavy hitter from our lightweight outerwear selection. It’s based on 1950s garage jackets that gas station attendants and mechanics used to wear, so it feels masculine and utilitarian in many ways. It’s one of those jackets that our guests immediately gravitate toward and end up falling in love with. The hem ends right at the belt line so if you’re a short king like me this might be the move. I wear a size medium in this.
Pants
Chunky Cord Full Saddle Chino - Washed Khaki. These pants are a nod to classic menswear cords with a lower wale count, making them super warm and ultra durable. They’re cut in our full saddle fit (my personal favorite) so they work well with my short, stocky frame. I had my tailor add a two inch cuffed hem to give them a more casual feel (thank you Carl for convincing me). The waist runs big so I sized down to a 30. Also, I’m in the process of turning them into senior cords so stay tuned!
Japanese Loomstate Selvedge Full Saddle Jean. One of the things I consistently brag about is our full saddle denim — high rise, true straight leg, and a roomy top block. Moving beyond the fit, one of the nice things about our selvedge is that its pre-rinsed so the break-in process is a little easier. I understand hardcore denim heads may not be thrilled about that detail but I think it makes selvedge denim less intimidating for first-time wearers. And at 14 oz these jeans are only a tad heavier than most entry-level competitors, so they still feel durable without all the stiffness. Did I mention these are MiUSA? I digress. I wear a size 31 in these.
Wovens
Cabinessence Flannel Camp Shirt. This flannel was designed as a nod to to the Pendleton Board Shirts worn by The Beach Boys. It just feels so California with the camp collar and the boxy cut, and that’s what I love most. It’s made of a lightweight cotton twill with a soft brushed interior, so it feel like your favorite vintage flannel that you’ve owned for years. It pairs well with my workwear-leaning styles and military surplus pieces. I ended up taking a medium in this.
I should note that I started drafting this newsletter on November 14th, so there are probably quite a few new arrivals that didn’t make this list. I’ll have to publish another newsletter in the coming weeks with more of my favorites once I get to try them on in store. In the meantime, stop by your local Buck Mason and try some of this stuff yourself before the holiday rush. Let me know what you think.
Take care,
Brandon
